Dry Eyes

Dry Eyes Clinic

Normally, a layer of tears (known as the tear film) covers the surface of the eye and the Meibomian glands that run along the lids will secrete oils to slow the evaporation of these tears. If there is a insufficient supply of tears this will cause dry eye disease. Almost 80% of Australians experience dry eye disease and many are unaware.

Our expert optometrists at Clear Vision Optical will thoroughly examine the condition of your eyes and propose a dry eye treatment plan with the goal of improving symptoms and eliminating the disease.

We have a large selection of drops, gels, creams, wipes, solutions and heat compresses to assist with Dry Eye Syndrome. We also provide “Blephasteam” treatment, a medical device that is worn & applies steam heat to the eyes’ glands, helping improve dry eye symptoms in over 90% of patients.

Dry eyes Symptoms

Most of the time, people only notice dry eye symptoms when the condition has already reached a severe level. Some kinds can be relieved by using over the counter drops but in most cases these aren’t enough or the wrong type. By talking about this with your optometrist in your consultation they can determine the best dry eye care plan for you going ahead.

The following are some of the most common causes of dry eyes:

  • Blinking insufficiently and gazing for long periods of time, especially when using a computer or other electronic equipment.
  • An imbalance of water, mucus, and oil that comprise the tears.
  • Eyelid issues, such as lids that turn too far in (entropion) or out (ectropion) Antihistamines, acne drugs, hormone replacement therapy, and high blood pressure medications amongst many other regular medications.
  • A problem with the tear ducts that interferes with the production and release of tears
